Dairy and egg free shop bought cake

Hi! My dairy and egg (and nut and sesame) DD daughter turns 4 on Wednesday and the tradition is to bring in a cake to nursery to share with the other children. The problem is that they want a shop-bought rather than a home-made cake. Any ideas where I could buy one from? I remember that our local Sainsburys did an apple cake this time last year but I don't think they stock it any more. I'm happy to drive to a larger supermarket but it would be good to know what I'm looking for. Any help much appreciated. Thanks

Oh hello!! Was just about to mail you with the disappointing results of DS's skin prick tests today Sad.

We had this problem and failed to find a big cake. In the end nursery took pity on us and baked one with the kids.

My other options were the Mrs Crimbles Dutch apple cake or jam tarts.

Or the other option is the frozen cheesecake holland and barret sell.

If a good vegan bakery counts as 'shop-bought' I bet these people would be able to help. I tasted their cakes at the freefrom show and they are delicious and wrapped very professionally with ingredients etc so might satisfy nursery... They are very nice folk too! I think I gave up when I was in your situation with my DS but if I had known about them I'd have given it a go. Good luck...

It's not very birthday cake-like but Soreen's Banana loaf is dairy and egg free.

Trixymalixy, Mrs Crimble, yes that's who apple cake I was thinking of. I had a good look at supermarket websites on Friday night but couldn't find it anywhere (despite it being available in our small, local Sainsburys a year ago). I almost bought it on Amazon until I saw the £6 postage cost for getting it first class then change my mind. Sorry to hear about DS's disappointing skin pricks tests. I'll send you a facebook message once this birthday madness is over. It's been 18 months since DD's last hospital appointment. We have an appointment for late December but the hospital cancelled our appointments for May, August and October so I suspect this one might not happen either.

Maz007, that website looks amazing and something I might use in the future and when I'm more organised to order one in good time. But I'm too tight to spend a lot of money on a cake for nursery ha ha.

Jojay, by happy coincidence, Soreen banana loaves are exactly what I ended up buying yesterday - four of them in fact because they're on offer. In fact, it wasn't a coincidence because I read them on another post here. I'd never heard of them before and certainly wouldn't have guess that they'd be daiy and egg free. I bought the mini snack loaves too and tried one and it's rather yummy! So I think it should go down OK at nursery.

Thanks again for your replies x

I saw the mrs Crimble apple cake somewhere recently. Can't remember, but could have been the Sainsburys near me, they have expanded the store so the free from aisle has got bigger. The cake's not that great, it's pretty dry.

Must try the Soreen loaf.

Not sure if it too late for you now but we often use tiffin made by lazy day foods. Available in big sainsburys or online. Free from dairy egg gluten wheat. Nut free bakery. Contains soya lecithin. It's our stand by treat for taking to parties etc and has been popular when we took in to nursery etc. The squares are big enough to cut in half so a box will do 10 kids. Sometimes we add extra icing and sprinkles...

Trixymalixy sorry to hear about disappointing skin prick tests- I think i remember your ds had a failed milk challenge like my dd?

Thanks rosehb. I actually had a lazy day food pack (some yummy orange themed thing, rather than the tiffin) in my Sainsburys basket before I tracked down the Soreen banana loaf and so I put it back. I only recently discovered the lazy day food products (in a cafe) but they seem great and, yes, would be a nice treat. But it's easier to stick a candle in a loaf which is why I went for that instead!

Can't believe you remember that rosehb, it was ages ago, but yes he failed the milk challenge. He seemed to become more sensitive to it afterwards and the skin prick test was positive, although maybe the negative had been a false negative that led to the challenge.

DS had an arm full of positive skin prick tests Sad, all nuts, most legumes and egg. Didn't test for milk as he'd had a reaction the previous week Blush. I don't know why I get my hopes up Sad.

Anyway hope your DD had a lovely birthday.
