Adoption

Preparation evenings

Just had letter in from our 1st agency who didn't seem to like us offering preparation group in 2wks time. I'm away with DC and would so miss the first 2hr session although would make the other 5. Would it be ok for DH to attend alone or is that frowned upon? We've already upset them as I've said I'm not prepared to rehome my dogs to get a child (have 2 birth children) but would of course do so if there was a prob post adoption. This apparently wasn't good enough by the SW who did the home visit so I'm gobsmacked we've even been offered prep group

What happens if someone is ill?

Think I'm just annoyed that they've taken from beginning of May to get to offering us Prep groups and then given us 2wks notice

We had only part of couple attend some sessions so I guess it depends on your agency

We made our original call in the October and didn't attend prep groups till January so may to July is good, my la only do them quarterly.

There was a change my oh would miss one of the days and my la was fine with that, because we gave them notice, in the end he got to them all anyway. One couple who attended, the man missed two days through sickness and they were fine about that too

(I'm in Scotland too)

Thankyou everyone. Will phone them and ask. We've had flights booked for 6months now and actually fly the morning of the 1st group. Will phone the SW and explain as I already work in the CP field so it's more important DH attends everything and I will be there for all the other full days. This one is just 1.5hrs introductions.

From my limited experience I'd say expect this to be the first of many 'hiccups'. The adoption process goes at it's own speed and there is very little you can do about it. Certainly increases your patience!

Also, you might just be surprised how much you do get out of the preparation days. I had similar thoughts to yourself. I've lots of experience in children/ looked after children (through my work) and if I'm honest didn't think there was much the course could teach me. I was totally wrong. Gained so much.
