This is a blog written by my sister in law about an adoptive parent's view on the current spate of TV shows and her journey to get to adoption.

While I did watch all of the TV shows and thought they were good (my wife and I have 2 adopted daughters) I also thought the writing and sentiment might find some fans here.

This is interesting, thanks for sharing.

Our friends who know we are interested in adoption often recommend TV programmes to us, but up until recently we have avoided them all. I think sometimes seeing the need for adoption on TV can be a real emotional pull, and DH and I wanted to make sure we were making the decision to adopt not out of an emotional response to needy children but out of a real commitment and desire to start our family that way. We really felt that that kind of emotion wouldn't see us through the challenges of parenting adopted children, wheras a commitment to a child regardless of their level of need would do. Does that make sense?

That said, now we have definitely decided we want to proceed we have started watching 'Love is not Enough' and it has been so useful in giving us things to think about and discuss. So I think TV programmes can be really useful in that respect, as material for discussion and conversation.

Just my 2 cents!

I almost never ever watch adoption programmes so I totally identified with the blog!
