Hi all
We are going through the adoption process and have just read a fantastic book that I highly recommend to people like us who are going through the process. Its title is Forever Family -our Amazing Adoption Journey by Emily J. Moore.
It gives fabulous information about the entire adoption process through the eyes of a family who have adopted 2 young girls and gives an amazing insight into what its really like to adopt, what the process involves through to when they were matched with their children. It also gives a day by day account of introductions once they were matched with their girls which we found very interesting and continues until when their children go to live with them, explaining all about how they settled and how they overcame certain problems, bonding/attachment etc etc. A very emotional but happy real life story.
We have read lots of textbook type books but thought this one was brilliant as its written by someone who has actually adopted and found this one much more interesting and enjoable with fantastic tips for when we hopefully get our own little one!
It answers the huge amount of questions that go round in your head about all the various stages of the adoption process and what to expect at each including adoption panel/the wait to be matched/matching panel/life appreciation day/introduction/adoption order/celebration day etc
We bought our book from ebay but someone on our prep course bought one off amazon and recommended it to us.

Great :)

I've heard 'An Adoption Diary' by Maria James is good

I seriously recommend 'No Matter What' by Sally Donovan to any prospective adopter, it's just fantastic. Made me want to laugh and cry in the same paragraph. It goes from Sally and her husband thinking about adoption all the way to years after their children came home. Funny, sad, honest and beautifully written. Goes through the lows, the highs, the difficulties and the achievements. Easily the best adoptive parent 'memoir' I've read in a very long time, and I've read quite a few

Lilka, YOU should write an adoption memoir.

You really, really should.

Thanks poppyrose for recommending Forever Family book, bought my copy this week and it was by far the best adoption book I have read - loved reading it and feel more prepared to go through the adoption process now, its also relieved some of my anxieties about the process x
