DS school is having tenth anniversary celebrations this week. Formal assembly in school with Richmond Mayor in attendance - ten children - one from each year and three from the first three years of the school who have now moved on were chosen to write their favorite memory of the school and read it out in Assembly. DS was chosen in from his year.

DS wrote (in joined up illegible writing)

"My favorite thing I ve done at Kewcumber primary school was the Horniman muesum workshop because the person runing it let us hold 4,000 year old Egyptian mumies, and learned that they worshipd cats and dung beatles."

(All punctuation and spelling his, not mine!)

He's in year 2.

He has some minor speech impediments which he is rather self conscious about and read it out in front of the whole school anyway.

My family told me not adopt him because as a very delayed 26 week premmie he would be incapable of living an independent life and I would waste my life looking after him.

I know he's not A star. But he's MY star.

[ridiculously proud emoticon]

This is the nicest thing I have read in ages!! Go your wonderful son, you are right to be so unbelievably proud!!!

DD was born at 26 weeks and I am so worried about what the future holds for her, I have tears in my eyes thinking about her ever standing up in assembly!!

Have some Flowers for both you and your son!

How big was she, lamb? She looks like she's doing well so far - DS was 980 gr

DS didn't catch up until he was about 4. Behind in everything - size, developmental delays, speech (didn't really speak until he was 3). Had just about reached appropriate targets at 4.

He's now 7 and just a smidgeon above average for height and ahead of national average at everything in school. And (given he was "query CP" when I met him at 11 months) now plays rugby like a whirling dervish as well!

He is a star isn't he?

Good genes I think - I wish his birth mother knew how fab he was - she could be proud too.

Kewcumber I remember your whole story and how MN cheered when you finally got your son.
I don't think we have stopped cheering since.

I LOVE it. Especially the dung beetle part Grin

I've followed your story since I joined MN 6 years ago, Kewcumber.

Every time I see a picture of the two of you I think how amazing it is that you found each other - you were so clearly made to be together.

Congratulations and well done, to both of you Flowers

I've just looked at your photos, Kew - he looks just wonderful. There's plenty of spirit in those eyes. You should be insanely proud - of him and of yourself :).

That's great! I have a 25 weeker (who's now DD2 and is 13) and she took ages to catch up and was always a shy, quiet one and couldn't say th (v) or br and a few more sounds. She talked at 39 months, so just over three, and walked quite late and was assessed for dyslexia and dyspraxia. She managed t catch up by about 9 and is now my beautiful girl and is doing well.

Your son sounds like an amazing, special star. He's a credit to you. And he looks gorgeous too. Be very very proud- of you and him!

I must put some rugby shots up to show how fearless he is!

I can't say I took a massive risk taking him on with his issues because to be honest it was always very obvious to me that there wasn't much wrong with his brain/personality from the beginning.

You are all lovely to enjoy the moment with me.
