Well on Monday it finally happened and DS got his wish to be adopted by DH :) :) :)
I have sought advice on here on several occasions and just thought I would pop in, let you know what happened and maybe even give somebody else the courage to go for it.
We are a fairly mundane couple eg. no multiple marriages, other children at home, conflicting religious views or involved birth parent. The whole process was very much driven by DS(8) as well which I'm sure helped us.
The interviews were as detailed as if we were adopting a child from care and I would be lying if I said it did not seem a little intrusive under the circumstances. We also seemed to wait an extremely long time between contacts with the SW as (I got the feeling) we were not a priority- I do understand this wholly but it was frustrating at times.
DS's birth father agreed with not a second thought nice man which also made things easier for us.
So now we are truly a real family. The JP at the celebration also told us that in our area they had only done 2 step parent adoptions last year, this year we were their 35th so the tide does seem to be turning (at least in our area)
If anyone on here is considering similar then I would definitely recommend looking into it- it may turn out not to be for you but it may turn out to be the best decision you ever make :)
