What's the best bedroom furniture to get for a tall three year old?

Hello

We're about to adopt a three year old and need to furnish his bedroom. We want the basics before he arrives (is that the right thing to do?), but won't have any time between meeting him and bringing him home to get anything. A friend has very kindly given us a bed, and we now want to buy table and chairs and storage units that he can access himself. We've seen a lovely range with trucks and cars all over them but I'm worried they might soon be too small

Is the 18 months to 5 years type furniture the best idea or do children grow out of it too fast?

Thank you

Firstly. congratulations!

Ikea has good stuff, all child sized and reasonably priced. Why not buy the basics in the blue and then let him choose the rest of the decor later?

children table and chairs a good iea but personally I wouldnt bother with other childrens furniture (except a bed and tbh even a bed can just be a plain single) - we manage just fine with a chest of drawers for my 5 yr old, he hasn't needed a wardrobe yet!

Ikea definitely for storage. The units and boxes are really useful.

Also I wouldn't bother with children sized furniture (wardrobes etc) as they're so small that you can get hardly anything in them.

Congratulations Grin

You have some excellent advice here from other posters

I agree with everything, especially fighting the urge to buy lots of new Stuff. You really need to focus on building your sons attachment to you. I'm sure you will have had lots of attachment parenting training from your adoption agency. Anything else ( apart from urgent health issues) can wait

As others have said, lots of things can get in the way of this.

Oh and many congratulations!
