first time on here so hoping someone can shed some light. I have known i was adopted since i was 16. At 18 i found my birth mother and brother..i have a younger sister who is 11 but does not know about me. I have chosen to not hav contact now with my mother or brother for personel reasons..but i have never met my biological dad all i know is he went to live in newcastle. My question is am i allowed to get all details and records with regards to the circumstances around my adoption or not. i live in cheshire and im not sure how to go about starting the ball rolling who to go to or where to go, im hoping someone on here may be able to shed some light and would be nice to hear off anyone in a similar position and share stories thank you xxx

Hi sweetsmiler, you've got a lot to deal with there and I'm sure someone will come along to give you some good advice soon. In the meantime, can I ask if you know which agency handled your adoption? Because they should be able to give you more information and support. Your local authority will also have a post-adoption service which might be a good place to start. You could also ring the British ASsociation for Adoption and Fostering for advice.

Very best of luck.

BAAF will be very supportive and will be able to facilitate your first steps, point you in the right direction and also offer councelling if you need it

Good luck - I wish you well

i think the other posters mean NORCAP

BAAF is an organisation of adoption agencies

you might also try adoption search reunion

good luck Smile

Hi 26 year old adoptee - Just wanted to say Hello, I'm a 26 year old adoptee too!

Good luck with your search. If I was able to find out about my biological parents I would, so I say go for it!
