I would write a letter/ card instead giving her your heartfelt thanks. She probably won't be allowed to accept a gift

Write to her bosses and let them know how good the social worker has been.

This letter will then go in her employment record and could get her a promotion.

I guarantee that she will be thrilled with that.

We gave our social worker a gift - she is an avid traveller so we bought her a lovely travel diary.

I would go with the letter/card. That?s what we did - although a letter to her manager would be a nice touch.

I don?t know if there are any ?rules? as such, but both our SW and DS?s SW have heavily implied in the past that gifts are unnecessary and not usually given.

It?s lovely that you?ve had such a great time with her

I would go with the letter to the manager, or to her, copied to the manager.

We don't get them often, but we are allowed to accept gifts! Last xmas I got given a tin of quality street which I dutifully shared with the office. I think a letter to her manager, a card and some flowers would be very nice.

A little card thanking her for help would be great. As a worker you are expected to share this with your manager and the card would get copied and recorded as a compliment. It is funny how teachers work for the local authority as well and it it totally acceptable for them to have gifts. I am not saying this is right or wrong just an observation.

I have wondered about this and read a couple of threads on AUK about this.

I wonder whether it is implied that gifts are unnecessary so that people don't feel obliged?

My SW has been amazing too so i plan to give her a card and small gifts. One for her that is something that we have talked and laughed about, and a small handmade gift for her litle girl. Neither of them have much monetary value though as i wouldn't feel comfortable giving a more expensive gift - i guess it's more of a token.

I will also be sending a letter to her manager to make sure they know how wonderful she is!

I used to work for an LA, not as a SW but as something sort of related - I wasn't allowed to accept gifts, had to turn all sorts of lovely gestures down and always felt dreadful about doing it. So I would definitely concur with a letter about how brilliant she's been, copied to her manager.

We gave both of our social workers flowers. I decided that if they were unable to take gifts home, the flowers would brighten up the office.
