Tiff, I can imagine she's still processing what she saw and learned about at Auschwitz tbh... my friend (adult) went a few years ago and it took her a good month to fully process the horrors of it.

I am sure the trips have helped her in the long run. I went to Ypres when I was at school and it really gives you an enormous hit of reality - it ain't just on the news / in text books at school iykwim

In June dd went to the Somme and Flanders with school, 2 weeks ago she returned from visiting Auschwitz.

I found it sad that she wasn't even moved by this service tonight, usually she would be. She says she's seen enough sadness at all the memorials. She's 15 and I'm beginning to regret letting her go on those trips now. She seems hardened somehow

I always watch the Festival of Remembrance - it is very important to me indeed.

Ds1 joined me at the end, and we had a good discussion about the causes of World War 2, and the importance of what the Allied Forces did to preserve our freedom.

I believe that we owe it to the servicemen and women who fought and died in conflicts through the years to ensure that they are not forgotten, and that the importance of working for peace and freedom is passed on to the next generations.
It was so moving, that little boy esp

My grandad survived but was never the same since (he died before I met him) but apparently he used to walk to the park and sit on a bench for hours on end.

My next door neighbour lost a leg in afghanistan last week and it really brought it home to me. No longer a statistic and all that. My grandad was also mustard gassed in ww1. sad

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
