Songs that you thought nothing of at the time but are actually quite creepy

I know we've had this thread a few time, sorry
Pulp, Disco 2000. Stalker alert!

There's one recently out by (I think) Lawson. In it he sings about standing outside in the dark and staring through the window at his ex which has always struck me as distinctly dodgy hmm

Infra Red by Placebo. Menacingly stalky.

Every breath you take - the Police - seriously creepy

Young girl by Gary Puckett and the union gap

The Lady Gaga song 'do what you want with my body' (probably not the actual title) gives me the creeps. And so does the Eminem/Rhianna one about domestic violence.

yes Antoinette, I've always found that song odd. I thought LG was more...feminist...than that

Aerosmith- don't wanna miss a thing

I would stay awake just to watch you sleeping,
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While your far away dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender

Erm how about that's a little creepy

I always find ' Candy man' a bit creepy, grown man offering sweets to children. Probably over thinking it but it makes my skin crawl.

A late-90s one called "Secret Smile" really gave me the creeps at the time. IIRC it wasn't overtly stalkery, but for some reason the notion that this guy interprets something a woman did as being especially for him, and she was going to "save him from madness" gave me the irrational shivers. I think it's because it came on the radio immediately after I heard that Jill Dando had been killed, and the two things connected in my mind sad.

Bucks fizz, land of make believe, horrible creepy lyrics.

PurpleBouncingHoppily Sun 04-May-14 13:33:21

<just read the title properly, and it's meant to be ones we thought were innocent! blush >

Exactly stealth. It's so submissive.

In that vein, I was a teeny metal fan back in the late 80s, listening happily to a band called Whitesnake who were having a comeback at the time. Decided to have a bit of nostalgia a while back and discovered their lyrics were very suss indeed. I knew at the time they were all about sex, the singer's persona was a strutting sex god, etc. What I didn't pick up on was how many of them were about barely legal schoolgirls shock.

oh hahaha 'Like a Prayer' by Madonna - my 15 year old dd pointed out to me just the other day what it was about grin

MrsKCastle Sun 04-May-14 13:40:33

Nothing Compares 2 U- Sinead O'Connor.

Whywould she want to return to that relationship? The guy sounded at best controlling, at worst seriously abusive.

Bucks Fizz - the little girls voice at the end 'Ive got a friend who comes to tea, and no one else can see but me. He came today, but had to go, to visit you, you never know'

Puff the Magic Dragon, I loved that as a kid. It was about drugs???

Thank heaven for little girls

Each time a see a little girl about
Five or six or seven
I can't resist the joyous urge
To smile and say.

Thank heaven for little girls
'Cause little girls get bigger every day
Thank heaven for little girls
They grow up in the most delightful way.

Thoir little eyes so helpless and appealin'
Someday will flash and have you crashin' thru the ceilin'.

Thank heaven for little girls
Thank heaven for them all,
No matter where no matter who
Without them what would little boys do?

Tell me boys

Thoir little eyes so helpless and appealin'
Someday will flash and have you crashin' thru the ceilin'.

Thank heaven for little girls
Thank heaven for them all
No matter where no matter who
Without them what would little boys do?

Without them what would little boys do?

hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm
