Tinsel - best way to fasten it up?

Going for as much sparkle around the house as possible this year, as this is our first Christmas with DS and about the only thing he'll be able to appreciate about Christmas is lights and sparkly stuff! How do you recommend I fasten up tinsel round the house - on bookcases, bannister etc? Blu-tak/ Sellotape etc destroy the tinsel (and almost invariably fail after 5 minutes anyway), but I'd like to avoid sticking drawing pins into furniture if possible. Am I just being dim? Is there something really obvious?

can you tie thread round the ends and then loop it over corners of bookcases or tie round bannisters? If it's thread it shouldn't show much.

That is a very sensible suggestion! See! I was just being dim! Thank you! Ho ho ho!

not being dim at all - it's only because I tend to use thread for all sorts of things that I thought of it!
Enjoy your spangly bannisters!
