Christmas cards to and from nursery children (slightly bah humbug)

Apologies if this has already been done...

Succumbing to peer pressure we are writing cards to DS1's entire nursery class.

So far he has written two cards (one of which is to himself), insisted on doing an inventory of all the different designs in the packet, licked the outside of the envelopes to see if they went sticky and sealed the list in in another envelope.

And all this for children who can't really read or write, and mostly the cards are handed from one mum straight to the other mum. Just WHY do we do this?

So in years to come when our kids just grunt at us when they see us in the street we can come over all warm and gooey about days gone by?

Don't ask me, dd managed to make 4 yesterday afternoon, in 3 hrs. Another 25 to go.

(and I've glitter and god knows what all over the floor)

I would say it was pointless. Let them choose the 6 DCs that they play with the most. I bet the DCs never see them on the whole-the parent has a list and the parent writes them all and then the parent has to read them all!

I'm not bothering this year with DS2. Have done it in the past with DS1, but I just don't see the point when they will just get thrown in the bin/recycled after xmas. He has written one for his key workers and we will get them a small gift but thats it.
I'm only doing a few myself this year - just to people I won't see around Christmastime. I love Christmas and all the trimmings but just can't be doing with Christmas cards this year!

Just do cards for the kids DS can name and wants to make/ write a card for.
AND be philosophical about his not being given a sack full of cards by class mates.

I think DS has given cards to about 6 preschool friends and received slightly fewer.

I've just written 25 of the bloody things. I was going to just give cards to the children I knew but then nursery helpfully handed out a list of every child and DS insisted that they were all his friends.

don't expect to get that many back though - hopefully other people have lives

I did consider doing this - then said bah humbug and didn't bother. We have recieved a total of 5 cards from nursery classmates so I'm guessing the card givers are in the minority at the moment.

When my dd is older and able to write she will be provided with her very own box of cards that she can send to her friends.

oh yes, dd preschool encourages it, they have a special xmas card post box to put the cards in, dd has had loads, all lovingly written by her friends mums , if i were to do it id make her sign her own name

DD although fine with us not celebrating xmas is desperate to post something in the special box, so i have agreed to a 'good luck a big school card' for her friend who starts priomary in jan

i couldnt even contemplate doing the whole class

DD in reception (aged 4) is doing it and her writing has improved so much as she has written them all herself. She has had some which I am sure the children have not written. My only argument for them is the handwriting practise. Just did them for best friends last year in nursery.

I don't do it. I give cards to the mums who I am already friends with anyway and their kids names are on those but neither ds takes card in for their classmates at school.

I think it's lovely- my son's 3 and has really enjoyed receiving his cards. there are only 16 in the class though so it's not that daunting.

I agree its a bit pointless but we are doing it anyway.

DS in reception gets loads, so 'we' wrote one for each child in his class (ie he got bored after about 6/7 and I finished them off) - then DD didn't want to be left out and we have leftover cards so will do them for her preschool friends too.

Though I do include 'would you like to meet up in the holidays?' and our phone number on a selected few, so if we have one or two nice playdates it won't have been a waste.

I did 4 for DD, and two of those were to teachers. DD shows almost no interest in other children except to her one friend (the other was to a lovely little girl who was kind to her despite DD not really reacting). I certainly ain't sending one to the whole class.

(I also don't plan on buying the teachers presents, even though they are lovely.)

[Why is there not festive biscuit emoticon?]
