Any thoughts? He has just done his university applications so it's that Sixth Former, too cool for school type thing.

But he is lovely.

I have got him a book already but I want to spend about £30ish on something nice but don't want to give vouchers.

CDs are no good, I can't keep up with what he likes

Clothes - I would inevitably get the wrong thing (although I once got him a pr of Converse All Stars, that was a big hit...)

Smellies - not really sure of his taste and I think aftershave is a bit embarrassing

Any good ideas, girls, for the would-be student?

Does he have an Ipod? If so you could get him an Itunes voucher for downloading music onto it...(I know you did not want to buy vouchers but its a bit different)

What about an experience? Like car racing or something from red letters kind of thing?

He does have an iPod but I did want to steer away from anything vouchery

Car racing - he can't drive, also the Red Letter type experiences tend to be more than £30

Thanks for the ideas though!

What about a selection of DVD's? OR you could check out www.firebox.com for some cool gadgety gifts!

I have a 17 yr old and I'm finding it difficult. I suppose you need to try and establish what he loves - my ds would snatch you hand off for the Abercrombie aftershave - but that wouldn't be to everyone's taste.

They seem to have different ideas of 'cool' between the various groups.

what sort of style clothes does he wear? top man is generally acceptable to all 17 year old boys, i would take a chance on buying him something from there, if its wrong he can always change it.

Yes, Abercrombie, I got him a t shirt from there last year. I might have a look at their website. (PS - I don't know where you are in the country, but their discount outlet is at Bicester Village.

It's actually Jack Wills at Bicester Village - who seem to be very popular also.

Of course it is. Doh.

I wish they DID have an Abercrombie & Fitch there!

I don't think they have any outlet, do they? I have bought in the USA before, and saved a fortune when the exchange rate was good! Not so good now though!
