Be completely honest, how would you feel about homemade gifts?

In complete and utter honesty, how would you feel if your relatives gave you homemade presents this year for christmas?

Or would you much rather have something small from the shop?

It depends how much I like my relatives. If I like them I would be very pleased, if I am not keen on them as people I would hate anything they gave me. iyswim

As for friends with young children, yes, lovely, but please not food related. I know i am OCD about it but I wouldn't even eat something I'd helped my own kids cook

Lots of homemade stuff I love eg fudge, lavender bags, aprons, scarves if I like the colours /design, xmas decorations

other stuff will go in the bin
eg pickled stuff I don't like
jam because we just never eat it
clothes that aren't to my taste

I think homemade shows a lot of love

as long as it's made well (or atthe very least with good intentions)

then i know that they've actually put thought into it.

Just as an aside, I can't think of anything worse than a big glass bottley thing filled with some kind of oily stuff and bits of forestry inside it.

From my relatives? I'd drop dead from surprise ! Honestly though, I'd love it, I think it takes time and effort which makes it special. I'd do homemade stuff myself but most of the people I know are a bit sneery, but then they're sneery about most things.

Homemade stuff that is useful to me - jams, marmalades, chutneys etc - are great.

Homemade knitted things or baked things aren't great.

What would be lovely to get as a homemade present is indoor or outdoor bulbs in a little pot. Surely nobody could dislike these?

I made homemade truffles last year. Wrapped them up nice and gave them as a token gift before Christmas.

I wouldn't mind a homemade present, as I know how it is to be financially crippled with no money to buy lovely things for people!

Christmas has become to much about the money, let's get ot back to how it used to be!

I think homemade gifts are lovley, I would much prefer them to somthing that I know no thought has gone into.
Dp aunt always buys everyone the same calender last year we got a dog one, it just show's that she really doesn't think about people before buying them a gift.

Fudge

For my mum and for my dad, a picture of DD (as well as other things)

I am not going to give all homemade stuff. Was thinking of making mini hamper type gifts with combination of bought and made. Does that sound naff?

we asked for homemade from my SIL this year, as they are skint due to maternity leave. A couple of years ago she made up a lovely hamper with port, cheeses and homemade biscuits and chutney to go with, which we really appreciated.

THis year I asked for a pot of the chutney please, when she asked us for suggestions - we will enjoy it and it won't cost them too much to make.

to be honest, whatever it is homemade I would appreciate it, as Iknow how much time and effort goes into it

Mil has requested I say requested a knitted beret from me this year. Gmil has asked dp to ask me to knit her a lovely tea cosy just like my own.

I nearly died of shock!!

There appears to be growing list of people hinting for a jar of my home made nice old fashioned strong pickled onions.

I think it depends on the gift, the giver, and the receiver. A lot of people I wouldn't give anything homemade to, because they just don't appreciate the effort, and think you are being a wierd kind of cheapskate. Other people, like the ones who've admired all my items over the years, are usually sooooo happy

I personally love a home made gift. The thought just counts sooo much more. for a start you know they didn't just knock it up at 5pm on xmas eve unlike a lot of xmas shopping.

So my mum who used to do a lot of knitting herself (ie understands the work involved) is getting an intricate lambswool lace shawl, mil is getting an acrylic (yuk I know... I know... ) beret that it won't matter if she bungs it in a boil wash with everything ele (which she will!!!).
