I am thinking of getting my soon to be 7 yo dd a cheap digital camera.

She would also like a flip video camera and an ipod touch but I'm not getting her those until she's older I think.

Other than that, she as asked fc for diaries and a pet rabbit.

camera is a good idea- but DS1 gave her his cheap one as he now has my old one...

I'm sure she'd like an animal- but not sure I want to- already have chickens and goldfish...

aaahhhhhahahhhh!

what's your budget?
how about a dolls house? Or a keyboard?

I am having probs with 6 year old DD. Not much she really wants. Have got her pretty skirt and top, pj's. A few of her friends are getting a pretty dressing table/desk thing for their rooms. Has been much easier to buy for 4 year old DS this year!

Rene- definitely no more than £80 on one thing (DS1 is getting a phone- he is nearly 11- and that costs £80)

We have an old doll's house that was made by my grandpa- is a bit shabby- but does the job!

We have a piano...

No room in her bedroom for dressing tables...

When I asked her she said clothes- but really she has to come shopping with me for that cos she is too fussy (oh dear that sounds bad...what kind of child have i created...)So- do I just give her some money and say that is for a shopping trip with mummy? Not very exciting is it .

her nanny is getting her one!

she is in to her build a bears- so maybe just more clothes for them... but I won't spend £80 on that!

So- does it matter if you spend different amounts on your children?

roller skates, scooter?

Report
honeyapple · 23/11/2009 11:27

thanks lucykate- she has a scooter and i don't like the idea of rollerskates- she is a bit too clumsy.

I hate the idea of getting something just for the sake of it.

keep ideas coming- taking DS2 to nursery now- but will be back!

my dd is very clumsy too, has not long since learnt to ride a bike, and have to admit i was not keen on roller skates. but after looking around online, have decided to shy away from all those in-line skates or roller blades, and go for the traditional 4 wheel variety, they are called quad skates nowadays, they look like real 80's style roller disco boots, so cool!

does she like lego?, there are lots of new lego sets out, dd has asked for the spongebob one.

lucykate- i was just looking at the lego belville stuff- but seems quite pricey for what you get. TBH she has never been a big lego child- I was- I had loads! (mind you- there wasn't a lot else about then...)

Starting to think you could be on something with the retro rollerskates- the inline ones are a def no no. I had a pair of red suedette skates with silver flames on the side- but i was useless! Maybe that's why I'm not so keen. I was definitely older when i had them too- prob about 10.

mine were red suede too!

belville lego is rubbish, some of the christmassy sets look cute, there's a toy shop, or the city/houses sets are better.

My DD who is 6 wants the Secret Journal/Diary thing which apparently recognises her voice - looks crap to me!
She also wants a DSi or a digital camera, or her own computer. A dog and a cat

We dont spend loads on Christmas - and she has just had her birthday. She got a dog (toy one, with batteries which moves and makes noises) its a Labradoodle.

The secret journal thing has been universally slated elsewhere on MN. Which is a shame, because I thought I had cracked my problem over what to buy DD.

In the end I have bought her a ticket for the stage version of HSM2 at the beginning of February, and an array of bits and pieces that I think she'll enjoy - the diary she asked for, a horrible histories jigsaw, a music case, a cheap DS game.

Does she like Playmobil? My dd is longing for the Circus set with big top, but there are loads of different lovely sets out there if you have £80 to spend.

My dd has rollerskates (inline version) and she does ok with them despite not being the most co-ordinated of children. But do get knee/wrist/elbow pads . . .

My 7yo DD wants a giant cushion shaped like a dolphin ... and a laptop

She's getting the cushion - might be able to do some deal with daddy about laptop access!

Last birthday, the surprise hit was a Lego Spongebob Squarepants house. She's never watched Spongebob Squarepants in her life, but she loved it.

She'd also love a camera.
