We are wondering about perhaps getting the dds a camcorder for Christmas but since I have absolutely no idea about these things, I don't know whether it's affordable or how to work them or anything.

Any recs / ideas please?

Tia.

Flip - this has been recommended before and I like the look of it. Been musing about getting it for us.

Thank you. I'd forgotten about this!
It looks interesting but I am easily confused. I don't want them to put videos online or anything - just to be able to make their little films etc and then watch them / svae them. Is that possible with this? Sorry for being stupid - I still use a camera with film!

I think so. That's my understanding anyway. I think you'd just plug it in to your pc and it would download like downloading photos.

Janeite, my ds has got rather into the idea of film making (inspired partly by Autumnwatch) so I asked the same Q here on MN a little while back and got some good recommendations.
In the event I've ended up getting this although I paid £110, not over £120 for it.
I can't comment on how good it is (or not) as we've not actually used it properly yet, but I chose it on the basis of it having a good battery life (3 hours) and because it uses SDHC memory cards, which hold loads and are fairly inexpensive if bought online. Ds will want to take it on days out and so on so battery life and storage media weere important considerations. When we go on holiday for example he won't be able to upload any videos to our PC so SDHC seems like a good option.
It looks fairly straightforward to use, too.

Oh and I liked the fact that it has a fairly powerful optical zoom, too (apparently optical zoom gives better results than digital zoom, although I really don't know anything about photography!).

Thanks Barak - or can I call you Van?
I think I want something a bit cheaper though, as it'll only be for messing around with.
