Playmobil/lego advent calendars - waste of money or better than a waxy chocolate??

Bought a star wars one last year in the sale but it isn't even vaguely Christmas related and so I think that one might get shoved back in the loft. What about the lego/playmobil ones? Are they worth the money or do the bits get lost and so they're a one year wonder?

Also are the sufficiently festive?

DSs are 5 and 2

Lego advent calenders x2 for DSs x2 were delivered today: Lego City and Pirates.
They look fab! I want one, gah!
I cannot wait for the 1st of December.

Better than a waxy chocolate but, then again, isn't anything?!

We had a Lego City one last year and I was disappointed with it. DS was 5. There were lots of figures, and not much to build. I'd bought DH a Lego one years ago where you built something every day (often but not always Christmassy) and then every few days you got extra instructions for building something bigger out of the pieces.

We've also had a Playmobil one. It was a Christmas scene in a home (so you got parents, kids, bits of furniture, tree, santa, presents etc etc). That was nice and we've got a different Christmas scene Playmobil one this year.

In both cases there's no way we'd have been able to keep the bits to reuse the calenders, but I wouldn't say that makes them one-year-wonders as the bits get played with all year.

HTH!

The playmobil calenders are very good, they contain far more then the lego calenders.

The Pirate lego calender has a very cute lego mermaid in it though.

Ooh I'm actually very tempted by the lego pirate one. Expensive for an advent calendar but if you view it as adding to your lego stocks it's not so bad - and we're short of figures (they go for rides in other toys and disappear)

And I want a Lego mermaid

pirate one

They are fab. Ds1 got so excited with his last year (Knights one) and was quite disappointed when Christmas Day came and there were no more boxes to open!

We've got the Christmas scene one this year.

They are good, and most of the Playmobil ones are reasonably festive (I think - I was looking at the pirates one and wondering). If you do get a Playmobil one FGS allow yourself plenty of DC-free time for assembly - you have to put all the right bits in the right boxes.

I have never attempted to recycle them for another year, but if you were suitably determined I guess you could..

If you search amazon you might be able to find playmobil advent calenders from previous years, some come with Santas and Christmas trees and reindeer etc.

To those who have the pirate lego one can I just ask where you bought it from? Our shop only stocks the lego city one and that was absolutely rubbish last year. The pirate one is on amazon but is £25!

Thanks to this thread I've just ordered it from the lego shop as in Belgo's link below. No idea why it's so expensive on Amazon!

How much is the p+p, or is it included?
