Ds1 (8) has got a wii, had it about 3 years and while he does really like it, nothing new is made for it and he really wants racing games and minecraft!

So my thinking was to keep the wii for ds2 (3) but get ds1 an up to date console but am stumped which one?

Any advice would be helpful.

Xbox is very easy to use and you can get minecraft on 360 or one consoles.

Parental controls are easy to set up also

Yes I would say Xbox too, we also have the new playstation (DH loves gaming) and the DC use the Xbox much more. I know that is what most of their friends have too.

The games are pretty much the same price. It can vary form store to store but if you look on Amazon they price them the same.

If you are after racing games, can't you get Mario Kart for his Wii? We tend to stick to Nintendo as the games seem more family orientated whereas all of our DS friends seem to be playing shoot 'em up games on their xboxes. We let DS play Minecraft on our ipad.

Get a 360. You can pick them up pretty cheap now.

Thanks everyone - jilted, he already has it but he's been playing it for 4 years and has completed all the levels. I am considering an Xbox 360 but with absolutely no shooting/killing/zombie type games!

Minecraft, FIFA football, tiger woods golf, sonic tennis, forza racing, lego batman are the types of games I've seen online.

He said only yesterday that maybe ds2 (3) would like the wii Hmm and maybe Santa would bring him something more "grown up" to play his games on, so think I'm definitely going in the right direction!

I think the 360 is a good bet, and now that the XBox One is out the price will probably have dropped a little.

My brother has had an Xbox 360 since he was in secondary school- he's now in his 20s and is still happy with it. Lots of games available and plenty of new ones released so finding age appropriate ones as he grows wont be a problem.

Can't really point you in the direction of any 8 year old ones, DB likes all the violent games, but the ones you've mentioned sound good.

Get the Xbox one. If its anything like other brands then new Xbox games soon will only be compatible with the Xbox one and not the 360. Like the new animal crossing could only be played on the 3ds not the old dsi.

doubtfire (my favourite ever film) that's good to know that they last that long!

galaxy can't afford one :-( £425? I've took the plunge and bought one of my friends cousin, a console in original box, 2 controllers, 2 headsets and 5 games for £60!

Thanks guys.

Oh and I've read that they will keep making games for the 360 until at least 2019, ds1 will be 13!

Don't take that as gospel

I have a game coming out next year I've been waiting for on springs and the twats are only bringing it out on the next gen consoles Angry but there are a shed load of games for the 360 that will keep him happy.
