When should I put my sprouts on?

(30 Posts)

Now that the bargains thread is gaining momentum, is it time to put the sprouts on?

I left it til October last year and they were decidedly underdone sad

Mine are going to be shite compared to yours now... Sob

Shit. I'd better get cracking then.

Do I boil the chestnuts as well? Should I add them now or wait til July?

Surely the urgent task about now is selecting your turkey's parents and supervising their mating?

Fenton Thu 22-May-14 10:08:41

Ha ha! I came here looking for Maryz, and there she is grin

lol

Maryz Thu 22-May-14 10:12:09

To be fair, I'm only here because the real thread came up in Active, and it would be rude to post on that one grin

I have the topic hidden, thankfully.

I do find it hard to believe people are doing this for real

You should be worrying about making your Christmas gin surely?

Atbeckandcall Thu 22-May-14 10:39:48

Amateurs! wink

I have the turkey firmly under control. I have hand reared a beautiful specimen. I feed him nothing but apples, raisins, cinnamon, ginger and honey.

I am hoping this will negate the need to spend most of December marinating him.

He looks a little scrawny, but he has a few months yet so I am hoping he will fill out a bit.....

oh shit!

I haven't even BOUGHT mine yet...

Do you think there'll be any left if I dash down to Tesco now?

You only have 217 days , they'll be raw shock RAW I tell you.

<<tsk>>

Unless (Christmas could be saved after all) you get some snazzy Heston Blumenthal~esque pressure cooker ?

kelper Thu 22-May-14 18:57:21

If i get baby sprouts, will i only need to put them on around august? <looks hopeful>

JerseySpud Thu 22-May-14 19:10:59

You are all insane.

Sprouts are the work of the devil!

I remember Christmas year before last. I always make home made gravy and without thinking used the sprout water to make the gravy with. Couldnt understand why DD1 and i were farting along with sil, DH and DD2 when DD1 and i don't eat sprouts.

It finally hit me when the fumes got too much later in the evening what i had done...

Shit and bother. I haven't got a pressure cooker!

Would a slow cooker work?

Maryz Thu 22-May-14 22:22:46

If you put them in the slow cooker now, they will be ready for December 2015 - if you want them this Christmas it might be worth microwaving them for a bit before putting them on the hob.

Can I skewer them with metal skewers and BBQ them, then the metal will cook them inside as well?

Eyes up large incinerator which DH bought and is currantly in the kitchen <<glamour>>

70 I reckon they will be delicious on the BBQ!

Barbecued sprouts??

Stop this madness!

On a separate note, I have decided to make my own Christmas cards this year.

Can someone talk me through turning the old apple tree into paper please?

starfishmummy Fri 23-May-14 17:01:31

Much easier to turn your junk mail into paper.
