I always have tinsel but notice this year many other people don't Blush Am I hopelessly naff? Yes I realise this is VERY MUCH a First World Problem but my cat has just died and I'm sad and need distracting

I alway had tinsel until last year. it wasn't so much that it's naff, but it drives me crazy when I'm trying to take the tree down.
I do prefer the tree without it though.

I have new tinsel this year in red and gold to co-ordinate with the rest of the tree! Of course it's necessary Grin

Last year we had new silver and pale blue to co-ordinate too.

The kids have an explosion of whatever isn't going on the big tree going on too

I've never had tinsel on my tree at home although I do have it on my PC at work.

My tree is so awful every year, naffness of tinsel really makes no difference Grin
I prefer other peoples trees without, but other people with neat trees dont have 4 year olds who take everything off 600 times before new year Grin

Sorry about your cat.

I hate the stuff and my tree is always 9/10ths tinsel.

I used to have very tasteful trees. No tinsel in sight. Beautiful, classy decorations.

Then I had kids. Grin

I just let them do it. They really love it and I will have many years of beautiful trees when they're all grown up. I rarely sob for the loss of my magnificent trees Wink

I let my dc loose on my tree. They do whatever they like... tinsel is a must (after they have wrapped themselves up in it over and over first).

I don't like tinsel, it detracts from the baubles and lights. I've only bravely omitted it in the last couple of years though. I dont mind thinner chains or strands of decorations ie beads but not big bushy bits of tinsel.

its trendy not to like tinsel and find it tacky, i love it and put all different colours on my tree :) i am very uncool.

No tinsel on tree!

It's naff and it distracts from expensive glass baubles.

We have strings of gold and purple beads instead.

Tinsel goes round mirrors and pictures instead.

Hmmm so strings of those bead things could be an alternative.... Actually might hand whole process over to DCs - then I can be naff and get away with it! Result.....

I've always avoided tinsel on the tree but 3yo DD is directing the decoration of the tree this year so it is tinsel, tinsel and more tinsel!!

Not sure why I'm worrying about it looking naff though, 11mo (newly walking) DS is into grabbing everything in a major way so whatever we put on the tree is will end up on the floor!

Tinsel, strings of sparkly beads and lametta are all essential on our tree. Along with the pictures of baubles that DD cut out of a CBeebies magazine 7 years ago.

We normally have tinsel. Tree looks a bit sad without it.

Gluezilla · 01/12/2013 12:45

What is lametta? Confused

Oh Queen I didn't read all your message just about the tinsel which I hate. I'm sorry about your cat. Mine, Barnaby went missing on Thursday night and I found him dead on Saturday morning. He had been hit by a car. His brother Troy is mooching around and missing him. Even though they hung around the neighbourhood separately they still ate and slept together. Hugs to you.

Bugger - didn't work.

It's very fine strands of shiny stuff that you drape delicately all over your tree. I think some people call it angel hair?

I hate tinsel and I think it smells funny. No one else smells it but I can assure you it stinks.

Strands of silver beads on mine.
