Now I am nosy intrigued as to how much the dreaded 'twitch' cost you last year. I probably won't start twitching until at least the second week only December when things are getting wrapped... But it cost £140 with oh I don't think dbil has as much as dfil etc etc .

Tell me your stories Grin and make me feel better

I can honestly say that I have never felt the twitch. I didn't even know it was A Thing until I saw this post. Is it really A Thing?

Oh it is definitely A Thing. You will feel it when you are ready Wink

Oh god I'm going to try and ignore it. I get it at bdays and Xmas and not just presents but food and booze too. I actually lose the plot and it costs a fortune!

I've just got it this week, dd has a Samsung galaxy tab 3 I've suddenly decided she needs a new ds and a furby. Ds has a massive train station table thing and I am desperate to buy him an innotab.

I'll probably buy dd a second hand dsi from cex for £40 and refuse to acknowledge the other thoughts. Fecking Christmas.

I get it. Last year wasn't too bad. Cost me about £50. This year I'm hoping that my twitch will transfer to the poncing side of things so actually I'll spend loads of time at the sewing machine and using my glue gun.

I hate the twitch. Dh gets it too so between us it can lead to very expensive last minute buying.

They'll keep twitching at you Grin

the Twitch : that feeling you get when you have bought your WHOLE present list and start wrapping and then suddenly - it hits you.... have you got DD what she really really wants? does she need the Lucy the dog that's harder to find that reindeer poo? And then you rush out and buy three turkeys too much, eight presents too much, one excessive tree, fourteen excess bottles of wine, and enough condiments to feed the entire city you live in for the next five Christmases Grin

Welcome to the twitch

I do it every year! So frustrating. I've got dps birthday in 2 or 3 weeks,We're going on holiday right after new year and we're still paying for our next holiday so I should seriously stop spending.. I will stop.. or dp will punt me out Grin

I'm twitching already. I've finished my shopping on the 31st October. So far I have ordered three extra presents and my amazon wishlist is filling up again... Hmm

Report
tweetytwat · 17/11/2013 15:51

I always find I have loads of spare presents left over.
IME if you start too early, you forget what you bought and buy too much, plus I have bought the same present twice several times

I try to make most of them things I like Grin

i do this every single year. I have no clue how much I spend as am too busy frantically buying unnecessary shite to add it up.

Is there a solution?

Log off the Internet, do not shop in town, avoid toy aisles in supermarket.

not followed advice yet. Don't intend to just yet

Report
Rosencrantz · 17/11/2013 16:26

I don't get the Twitch, but that's probably got a lot to do with the fact I rarely finish shopping before the 20th December. There isn't time to twitch.

I'm the opposite of twitching this year. We agreed to wait much longer to make our final decisions - very much going for the 'less is more' approach this year!

But now I'm finding it really hard to click 'buy' or decide exactly which shops to go to and so on. Very odd. I hate my brain Hmm

Report
fuzzpig · 17/11/2013 16:30

Oh but I'd heartily recommend not taking DCs anywhere near a shop until at least January 1st :o

My parents took us out yesterday and after lunch/naice little museum we attempted a few of the local shops... MISTAKE

DH and I have the same day off next week so we will be going to town with an ordered, itemised list!

Oh god- and Xmas markets! Steer clear of Xmas markets if you suspect you have the twitch.

Anyone who has never heard of The Twitch should not read this thread.
It's contagious Grin

My main twitches are food related-
"Oh, one box of Sainsburys Mince Pies isn't enough" so I buy a couple.
And a Stollen
And a chocolate roll for DS

Oh and a truckle of cheddar - DH will want some cheese and biscuits.
Some naice bread for breakfast toast.....
you get the picture?

I make an apple pie
Trifle
Buy ice-cream

shouldn't do these things Blush

I have the Twitch just before Christmas eve when I worry I haven't got the DC's the same number of items each for their stocking.
FFS they are 21,20 and 17 this year and have been well past the ritual of counting items for about the last 10 years!

The Twitch hit at the German Market in Birmingham last year.

£120

BeaWheesht · 17/11/2013 17:19

Oh I get this especially this year because I fear it may be the only year both my kids understand and believe at the same time.

Also ds and dh have their birthdays at Christmas which is mega badly planned!

Breezy1985 · 17/11/2013 17:19

I always get the twitch when wrapping, buy loads more AND then get the twitch again on Christmas Eve Hmm so always end up nipping to the shops for something.

I'm twitching big time already, dd's getting a laptop so I'm not buying too much else, but now I'm starting to panic that I need to buy more, I've just been on Tesco's site because I have vouchers and I feel the need to spend them. Twitching on chocolate too, will one tin really be enough (yes it will because I've lost 2 1/2 stone this year and don't want to put it all back on). Next year I will buy things later so I can avoid the twitch.

I need to deactivate my camel camel alerts. Even though I'd finished DS's shopping weeks ago, I got some Star Wars lego alert at a really good price that I couldn't bear to miss out on.
Then yesterday DS begged to have a look in Smyths toys when we went past and I found another bargain accessory to go with his imaginext castle.

I did manage to stop myself buying some books in a museum shop for various children that I have already shopped for. But that was because they were full price I think Grin.

Oh, I love reading MN's Twitch threads!

Last year's was hilarious reading about all the random stuff people go out and buy on the 23rd

It's always a bit of relief when the last ordering day online has passed and I know I am safe from the grasp of the Twitch.
