Christmassy things to do with the family in Cornwall

I'd really like to hear from people who have some lovely ideas of things I can do with my little boy over the Christmas period. DH will be about too, but will be working quite a lot, so I need some great things to do to make it memorable

How about visiting one of the picturesque harbours such as Mousehole or Mevagissey to see the Christmas lights? Pantomime in Truro combined with a visit to the Cathedral? Where abouts are you staying?

Ahem, we live here not too far from Truro. Our DS is just at the age now (3 by Christmas) where he can join in more things and no longer needs a nap.

Well I've booked that rosa! Thank you thank you THANK YOU! My DS is absolutely nuts for trains, that will be so special and so lovely. Managed to get in on Christmas Eve too!

We went 2 yrs ago ( as we alternate with Uk and abroad) and it was magic. Go early and you get mincepies !!!! We are in the Uk this xmas I have yet to book flights so not sure if we will do it, Panto is booked however !!!!!!

Father Christmas at Trelawney garden centre at sladesbridge (near wadebridge) is really good.
It does get busy so I recommend you get there at opening time to avoid waiting too long. I think they also do breakfast with him.

Normally at the national trust house near newquay (trerice?) they have an old fashioned father Christmas telling tales of xmas like why we have a tree and put lights on it type thing.there is gloves ane cinnimon (sp?) on the floor which gets broken and smells ace. Not sure when they do it though

I've never done the Truro late night shopping, and that Woodland Wonder at Tehidy looks AMAZING!!

Is there still the festival of lights parade thing in truro at the start of late night shopping? Loads of puppets made out of papier mache... The west Briton has a what's on section which should have more info closer to the time

Yes I saw the puppets thing last year on TV, I fancy the shopping with reindeer though

S if you post on the local page. I am in Truro, and here is my two-penneth.

Festival of Lights, I can't find a link but it is the first .wednesday of late nit shopping. A lovely atmosphere, get to town early and stand outside the museum for a great view... And hot refreshments served by its fab cafe.

If you have annual membership to trebahgarden the winter trail and Santa is beautiful, and to be honest I thinkit is o e of the best local places to pay for for a year. Always fabulous half term things etc

Ice skating... Eden is busy and magical but there will be skating outside Truro cathedral again this year. Book for one of the cheaper, quieter toddler sessions and huddle down with a hot chocolate in the Truro arts cafe afterwards.

Truro art cafe for festive activities... And the best hot chocolate or cream tea in town. Cosy sofas and the log burner is alive and warm on cold days.

Christmas lights on fishing boats after Xmas at Padstow.

St Michaels mount on a crisp winters day is magical and the park at Marazion is v toddler friendly.

Heartlands will surely be doing a festive something.

I think this year it is the Messiah on at the cathedral, it happens every other year. 2pm Saturday is the rehearsal and, having stumbled across it looking at the nativity scene when eldest was a toddler, we now go every year. Magical.

Xmas eve live nativity parade through Truro. Including animals. Bonkers. My kids love it. Even the eldest grumpiest!

And not one for the children... But grab a friend and go late night shopping in Truro and call in at the old grammar school for paella and vin chaud or similar. Not traditional, but it has become part of my seasonal calendar, Truro has a lovely atmosphere to shop in late night and this place is one of the best pit stops.

Oops sory for ramble of an answer... As you can see I love being local for Christmas!

I second the Padstow Christmas festival, Truro lights, Father Christmas at Trelawney Gdn Centre. All of the national trust places will have something on for Christmas too and there's lots to chose from.

We live on the south side of St Austell with 1 year old & 3 year old if you ever want company. Don't know many people locally since we moved. Need to check out the local page myself really!
