Walk away from the York idea unless you like being shoved around and packed in with thousands of other people doing the same thing st nicks tends to be end of nov they do an ice sculpture thing in swinegate at some point during winter look online at. But seriously we lived there for the past 12 years and winter is horrendous in York we always did our shopping online or very early park and rides will also be packed with mahoosive ques but if you won't heed my warnings

My cousin always tells me about Stockeld Park and I always forget to look it up. So am marking place here to try and remind myself grin

Ooh, I've been in York for 12 years and have never heard of Stockeld Park! Off to look it up now-sounds great.

There's also a great Christmas place called Stockeld Park not too far from York. There's a maze, woodland walk, ice skating, cross country skiing course, grotto. If you arrive early afternoon it will get dark while you're there and the illuminated woodland walk is particularly lovely. It's been a firm festive fave with my DD for a few years now.

You say Christmas markets or activities. If you're up for doing lovely Christmassy things that aren't markets, then I can highly recommend the Santa Ouse Cruise!
We've been a few times, and it's magical for small people! Board your boat, and have mince pies and a drink, and set sail down the river Ouse and listen out for Santa's bells as they land on the roof and descend down the stairs to hand out presents!

Castle Howard (big house just north of York) has a lovely Christmas market. The market in the centre is usually good, and York at Christmas is just lovely to walk around in the evening when all the lights are on - very Dickensian.
Then you have the shopping outlet on the south side for more shopping (can get the park and ride bus from outside the Dungeon). Definitely worth a weekend trip!

I posted earlier on the thread about Christmas markets in Bath or York - we go to the St. Nicholas Fair which we have always enjoyed. However, as we only ever go for the shopping, I have no idea what Christmas activities there are, I am afraid. Shopping is lovely, though. And lots of places to visit which probably do Christmas stuff.
