I have thought about getting my mum one for Christmas but do you think they are tacky? I can't decide if I think they are or not. Or are some makes tacky but others are OK? I've not really looked at them closely, only seen them advertised on TV or billboards.

Pandora, always Pandora and they are not tacky, you can get some beautiful charms.

I bought myself a Pandora necklace with 3 charms/beads in the hope that people (DH mainly) will add to my bead collection for birthdays and Christmas.

We did the same thing for my niece with Troll Beads... I think I actually preferred them to Pandora, but the jewellers in our small town stocks Pandora and the glass is still lovely.

The chains and bracelets are between £60 and £150 and then you add the beads (from about £20 upwards)... so it's not a particularly cheap option, but a lovely present that can be added to.

They are all fine if you like paying for labels. The fact that you are discussing the brand names rather than what they look like says it all in my opinion.

Think of the lovely piece of timeless antique jewellery you could buy with the money.

Personally I think they are tacky, but I know lot of people love them.

I do think that only the very young, very tanned and very thin get away with wearing them, though. They look terrible on chubby wrinkly wrists attached to sausagey hands.

Agree with seeker - they are VASTLY overpriced and you would get something much better quality for your money if you bought something antique.

I wouldn't even know what to look for, let alone where to look for a nice antique!

Just go into a nice looking shop and buy something you like. Search antique jewellery on Ebay first so that you can see the sort of thing that's about and the sort of prices things go for. If you have an antiques fair anywhere near you that's a good place to look. You will be able to find something lovely and unique for the same - or less that you would pay for the Padndora/Troll/Sabo stuff.

I am baffled by people (not you, OP - I'm generalizing!) fretting about the possibility that their child might have the same name as another child in the county, but then being happy to wear and give the same over priced, over hyped, label led jewellery as everyone else!

Is there anyway I can find where my nearest antiques shop might be?
