Christmas

what would you buy an 8 year old who loves Lego but already has far to much of it.

DS2 has loads of Lego, all he wants for Christmas is more Lego (especially star wars!) and some books/audiobooks. Father Christmas will probably bring him some Lego ( I'm not completely mean and DS1 is getting Lego NXT or whatever it's called) but I'm stuck for what else to get him and I know both sets of GP's will ask for suggestions, In laws especially like to get something over the top, so require guidance.

More lego Grin

Not the answer you wanted, but hey, my 7yo is obsessed by the stuff and Santa apparantly has said it's okay to have more!

Uno extreme and Bop it are also being requested, as are Lego games if you want to expand the lego range Smile

lego torch
lego battery wall light
one or another of the lego games( i really like creationary and so do my nephews age 7, 9 and 11)
lego watch

I know you were after non lego ideas, but there some very handy not quite lego lego bits and bobs. any other construction toy is just going to be pain as it won't be compatible with what the boys have already.

How about the lego annual or the lego book?

or go the other way
Suitcase
Football
Basketball hoop
DVDs
Craft kits

etc

More lego and a storage system for it so he can organise it - lots of drawers.

If he loves building and you want something different, some of the K'nex sets are good - like the one with motors you can design vehicles which really go. Do lego still do the Technics stuff, come to think?

Lego games :) Minotaurus looks good or Harry Potter
Zoob and Meccano for our lego obsessed 7yo.

Its already in really useful boxes, we got about 6 carrier bags a few years back of freecycle when some one came to Father Christmas's rescue and had a pirate ship DS2 had asked for was that no longer available in the shops, this is in addition to the power miners/cranes/star wars Lego we also have. When I say we,ve got a lot of Lego I mean a lot of lego if I could get away with not buying anymore I would. We've got a couple of the lego games and managed to to keep the bits seperate.

Can you buy shares in Lego or is there some sort of reward scheme Grin

Storage for lego?

Someone linked to some great Lego box design storage blocks - I thought they were really unusual.

My DSs are lego mad too.

Aside from an array of Star Wars related small brick building opportunities, I have also bought them some Lego games and Lego watches.

Does your DS like reading? If so, perhaps he would like some of the fantasy style books such as Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver or the Beast Quest books? I also find that Horrible Histories go down well with my two.

Does he have a DS? How about some of the Lego games for DS? Or a light sabre stylus (found on Amazon)

Thanks everyone.

Just found this www.thejediassembly.com/tutorials.php, so think I a Jedi robe might be on the list. Ithink we'll ask in laws to buy some Star Wars Lego and just hope they don't go over the top and probably ask other gp's for Harry potter game.

My 8yo loves this lego star wars book

giant boxes

If you haven't been to Legoland, I would go for that - try and pick an inset day. If not you will need Q-Bots, which are pricey but worthwhile.

Forgot to say, Legoland do Mindstorms workshops where they teach how to programme the NXT robots, which your DS1 would enjoy.

Brickmaster

If you have a Wii or Nintendo DS, the Lego games are excellent - Harry Potter, Star Wars, Batman, Rockband...

Lego have an annual out which would make a nice present. We have lots of the games and I have bought some more for christmas for DS as they are well built and fun.

Why not try other construction or science toys. My son got a calendar where you could make a new paper airplane every day, and loved it. Maybe they just aren't sure what else to ask for. (My son always used to greet every book he got with "Oh not another book." but actually was quite enthusiastic about a recent book token.)

My DH informs me there used to be a Lego club... He was a member and very proudly had a photograph of a car he made published in their newsletter (he still has the photo), if the club still exists could you make them members for Xmas?

I'm sure I've seen somewhere you can get a person's photo (or photo of something he loves) turned into a lego image, for his bedroom wall...
