Music for a 9yo boy?

DS is 9, somewhat unworldly, and really listens to what I listen to, which is perhaps not helping with the whole getting on socially thing. He has mentioned saving up for an MP3 player (seems to have forgotten about Christmas - and anyway, he never asks for things because he likes a surprise Hmm). So - what do 9yo boys listen to? Because Motown just doesn't cut it on the playground...Blush

Try Gogol Bordello. Sounds a bit piratey, is very jaunty and also achingly cool. My 12 yr old ds loves it.

If you want a bit more mainstream, try selected Mumford and Sons ( might want to miss out on Little Lion Man Grin.

My two like Seth Lakeman and Lissie, but that might just be them.

Other than that, check out the charts (clueless, sorry) or X factor downloads?

Thank you! I shall check them out. Yikes at X factor. He watches Strictly. See why we need help?!

I've got similar issue with 11yr old DD - she only watches Dr Who and AutumnWatch!

I've never heard of any of the people/groups mentioned so far.

Her last party we got away with musically because in the wake of Mamma Mia, Abba Gold passed muster Grin

Music tastes are very personal, I would encourage his individuality. In a few years his differences will be perceived as cool. I imagine he'll find it hard to stomach some of the more manufactured pop 'acts'.

My 9 year old dd is obsessed woth the Beatles - her bedroom looks like you have stepped back in time Grin
It does not go down well in the playground and gets teased but i tell her to stick to her guns because she will be the height of cool in a few years.

Ds is nearly 8 and he likes Michael Jackson, Madness, and MGMT (is that right, not sure - something like that!) He also listens to my jazz a bit, but not enough to want any of his own.
