Looking for a girl's name that means dawn.

I actually quite like Dawn.

Don't want to use Aurora, just not for me.

I do like Ayelet, "dawn hind/gazelle" in Hebrew.

Stumbled across Aubeline, which allegedly means dawn in French but is potentially way too much like aubergine.

Help!

Alba is spanish for dawn and is used as a name there.

la madrugada also means dawn though! hmmm.

Aubeline is abit ........ strange.

Aurora is terrible. Sorry. Really awful.

Alba

Aurelia

Aubergine - well that's actually quite pretty - you could start a trend!! :D

I seem to recall that Roxane/Roxana means Dawn.

No, I don't like Aurora either! I was trying to be polite about it.

Aubeline is a bit strange, isn't it.

I don't like Alba either, sorry. It's a good thought and I know many like it but to me it is "albumen".....

Oh I'm difficult. Aurelia sounds terrible with our surname. And Roxanne is a great Police song, but I couldn't use it....

Why not compromise and go for something related to dawn?

So, on a light theme then:

Lucy - light
Lucia - light
Lucille - light
Lucinda - light
Stella - star
Clara - clear / bright
Estrella - star
Seren - star

BackInMetropolis Sat 08-Dec-12 21:19:13

I like the light theme, and had thought Lucienne. But will it just end up Lucy? Which is a perfectly nice name, but lacks the wow factor I'm looking for.

DH has dismissed both Stella and Estrella on the grounds of beer. And he hates Estella and Estelle.

Clara - I've read Heidi to DD1 too many times.

Seren - nice but not for me. Tis a bit plain sounding for my taste, although I understand why it is well liked.

Names don't need to have the "wow" factor. The baby will have that in spades!

What's wrong with 'Dawn'?

What about Lucia - unusual, beautiful and has a good meaning?

ISeeSmallPeople Sat 08-Dec-12 21:31:00

Or Luciana?

GinSoakedMu1berryLush Sat 08-Dec-12 21:31:40

yeah, Dawn would be brave.

Thanks for the links Mrs.

Seeker, I know. I know wow factor sounds stupid.

And I do like Dawn, I really do. I think it is graceful and elegant. But I have a slight funny feeling about using it as my mother's cousin was called Dawn and she died of leukemia as a teenager. This was long before I was born ; DM was only about 20 at the time. I just don't know whether it might be strange/upsetting for both DM and DGM to hear the name used again. I don't know. I don't really want to ask. I don't know why.

GinSoakedMu1berryLush Sat 08-Dec-12 21:32:10

but what i meant was why not dawn.
Only ever known one dawn and she was lovely

BackInMetropolis Sat 08-Dec-12 21:34:43

Hmmm Sheherezade: kill at dawn (according to one of those links). Nice.....

FunnyBird Sat 08-Dec-12 21:34:47

I think the Welsh for Dawn is Gwawr. Lovely name. I know one, and she is lovely too. But you probably have to be a bit welsh to use it.

GinSoakedMu1berryLush Sat 08-Dec-12 21:35:20

so true about the wow factor seeker. although i love my daughter, she's actually very sensible, practical, average height, quite good at everything, brilliant at nothing but bad at nothing, still though; very confident, argumentitive, such a good negotiatior, she loves company and sees the humour in everything. She comes up to me and gives me a hug when I'm stressed. I'm not sure a 'wow' name would have suited her as much as her actual name suits her.

I do remember being pregnant though!!!

Am I over thinking the family history with Dawn?

GinSoakedMu1berryLush Sat 08-Dec-12 21:36:31

Gwawr! You'd have to be welsh yes!

GinSoakedMu1berryLush Sat 08-Dec-12 21:37:52

I think Dawn as a middle name and the name you love as the first name!
Because Dawn is quite simple it would be a perfect middle name really.
